Wood work is an incredibly engaging, versatile & interesting activity for children of all ages!
Whether you are a Teacher, Beaver Scout Leader or a Parent in a Home Education group, Seed of Play is here and committed to bringing this unique & fantastic experience to you and your community.
Through the workshop(s) children will have the opportunity to use hand and power tools safely, learn a little about sustainability and engage in a creative process that is completely driven by them & their interests.
There is no pressure or formal structure, instead after the safety briefing and introduction, children are given access to all the different sizes and shapes of wood, which they can then assemble and decorate to bring their imaginative ideas to life!
It's a wonderful, playful and creative adventure!
The aim with our woodwork workshops is to ease children in an inclusive and relaxed way into working with real tools and to nurture a fundamental aspect of their development - learning through play.
As children develop their mini-projects they are naturally honing their carpentry skills, becoming comfortable with the tools and exploring concepts of spatial awareness, engineering and mathematics amongst many others.
The goal is to inspire children to work with their hands, to up-cycle and to believe in their many abilities!
Individual workshops are available to book or benefit from discounts if you book multiple sessions . Please get in contact for a quote.
From fairy gardens and garages to pencil holders and houses for favourite toys... Simple wood crafts can have a big impact, not just in the moment of creation, but in the moments that come after... Play time feels that little more extra special when it includes a unique, hand made, eco-friendly masterpiece!
Woodwork brings enormous benefits to children's learning. It is an activity that they greatly enjoy and their levels of concentration, engagement and perseverance when working with wood are unmatched in other activities. Children often persist at challenging woodworking tasks for extended periods and it's not unusual for a child to spend an hour and a half deeply engaged in a project.
When working with real tools, children immediately feel trusted, valued and respected and derive a sense of responsibility. Once involved, the delight, satisfaction and pride in their own work and learning are clearly visible. This sense of empowerment and achievement provides a visible boost to their self-esteem and self-confidence.
Woodwork provides a unique and versatile medium through which children can express their creativity and enhance their imagination.
It offers experiences that become deeply embedded in children's memories.
As well as enabling children to think creatively, it requires them to engage in problem-solving and scientific investigations and presents endless opportunities for developing numeracy skills
Physically, children are able to develop both their gross and fine motor skills, through the likes of using sand paper, holding a nail in place and using the power tools. Hand-eye co-ordination is developed as children learn to handle tools with increasing control
And throughout the whole process, children are presented with opportunities to develop their vocabulary, express their ideas and engage in dialogue as they discuss, reflect and execute their plans.
Woodwork may not have all the answers, but it definitely is one of them
